TL;DR: Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIR) is a full-time paid program for the most talented operators in the world who are exploring what’s next.
The Great Resignation is in full swing. Some of the most talented operators in the world are in-between roles, unsure of what’s next. They need a platform where they can continue to create impact while exploring what’s next.
At the same time, On Deck founders need elite operators to increase their odds of achieving success.
There’s a huge mismatch there – and a huge opportunity. By putting these two together, we believe we can help the top operators in the world craft their career trajectory by helping ODX founders get to their next milestones.
Meet Entrepreneurs in Residence.
EiR is a full-time paid role for world-class operators to do the most impactful work of their careers while they decide what’s next. We are also offering an investment from the ODX accelerator to every EIR who goes through our program.
During the assignment, which can last up to 12 months, you’ll join the On Deck team as a full-time, salaried employee and leverage your experience to help On Deck founders build the next unicorns by:
Slotting in as a Partner for On Deck’s portfolio companies. You’ll be a full-time advisor and leverage your operational expertise to help 10+ On Deck portfolio founders and companies (per quarter) explore, build, and scale. You’ll learn years’ worth of lessons in months and master your operating craft by helping other founders explore ideas and startups across different industries and various stages hit tangible goals in 90-day sprints.
Working with the ODX investment team. You’ll screen applications, interview founders, and learn how On Deck makes investment decisions. If you’re new to VC, we’ll give you a crash course and teach you everything you need to excel – from how to evaluate startup ideas to developing your investing thesis. We will also help you develop a stellar network.
Supporting special projects for founders. Our aim is to make On Deck the most valuable startup ecosystem in the world. You will provide one-off support on special projects to achieve this goal.
On the side of supporting founders, you’ll leverage On Deck resources to explore markets, validate ideas, find a co-founder and get conviction on what’s next.
Whether you want to break into VC, truly master your operating craft, or become a founder, On Deck’s Entrepreneur in Residence program is your front-row seat at a $100 million accelerator.
What you’re going to get out of it
Our definition of ‘operator’ is wide, and encompasses everything from marketing, operations, sales, customer success to legal. More than the specifics of your functional expertise, we’re interested in how you’ve leveraged it to create impact at high-growth startups. We’re also particularly excited about former founders who have started venture-scale companies for the EiR program.
This means that the EIR experience is unique and will be tailored to each individual. Throughout the program, we’ll support you with coaching, mentorship, and help you decide your next move.
You’ll get to invest and support founders while exploring markets and ideas. At the end of 12 months, successful EIRs will traditionally have one of these three outcomes:
- Joining ODX as a Partner.
- Starting your own company.
- Joining On Deck in a different role.
Who is a good fit?
We're accepting up to 5 EIRs for the first cohort.
You're a good fit if you have 10+ years of experience as a senior leader or operator in technology or you are a repeat founder who has launched at least one venture-backed startup.
