The scope of design has increased dramatically. It drives key decisions across product development, engineering, branding, marketing, and ultimately, business growth and is involved in the earliest stages of product and company-building.
As a result, design is more impactful than ever before, and becoming a design leader is something many designers aspire to. But becoming a successful leader doesn’t mean getting closer and closer to creating pixel-perfect work.
Becoming a world-class design leader is about going beyond design itself. It's about honing strategic and business thinking, utilizing organizational frameworks, managing expectations and workflows, and developing strong communication skills.
However, this body of knowledge is not yet ubiquitous, and there is no one place you can go to acquire it. This means the path to becoming a more impactful design manager & leader can be intimidating and filled with uncertainty. You often stumble into the role without knowing what it involves and how to thrive in it.
Enter the On Deck Designer Fellowship
ODD is an 8-week remote program for ambitious designers who want to hone their skills, increase their impact and grow as leaders. We combine a step-by-step curriculum and an incredible community of peers to help you become an effective design leader.
As an On Deck Designer fellow, you’ll have access to:
- Deep-dive sessions focused on strategic thinking, communication frameworks, principled leadership, and more.
- Office hours from partners and guests on design & leadership best practices.
- Fireside chats with some of the world's best designers and managers.
- The opportunity to join build weekends, collaborate on hackathons and advise other fellowships starting companies, launching products and exploring new opportunities.
- Full access to our Designer’s Library, a carefully curated resource for design leaders.
Think of this as the best virtual design conference you've ever been to, except there is no "end" and the value compounds over time. Even after your cohort completes the formal program, you'll have access to the community for life.
Whether you are transitioning into a leadership role and or looking for ways to become a more effective design manager, ODD will help you develop the skills you need to thrive.
The Inaugural ODD Cohort kicks off March 14. You can apply here before February 15th. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
