Here’s why other fellows are excited about On Deck Data Science
As someone leading data science at a startup, I was looking for a community that brings together data science leaders that are going through the same journey and share common challenges and best practices. ODDS does exactly that - it gives us the forum to bounce ideas off each other, and learn from experts who have gone through this path.
I’m excited to join the ODDS community and be connected with the network of talented fellows and leaders. Can’t wait to learn from everyone and grow in the areas that are very top of mind for me - how to build effective data teams and optimize my career as a data professional.
I'm looking forward to joining ODDS's founding cohort to learn, share, and grow as a leader in data science. Communities of this caliber are accelerants for innovation.
Continuous learning is essential in a rapidly evolving field like data science. I see ODDS as a key learning accelerator, connecting me with the leaders facing similar challenges, and the experts who are willing to share their hard-won insights.
As the Head of Data Science of a high-growth startup, I must keep myself updated on the best practices and the state of the art, but In an efficient way. A combination of curated resources and a community to grow together is ideal. ODDS provides that space, where not only I'm given the right material to increase my knowledge and better my skills but I can share them with a group of high-performance colleagues
I've spent my career building data teams at small startups. While I love the opportunity that provides for impact, it's rare to have peer data science leaders at that size, and it can be lonely to work through data-specific challenges without them! For me, ODDS represents a community that can fill that gap.
Community is vital for professional growth but challenging to find, particularly in an all-remote world. I'm thrilled to join ODDS as it provides me with the learning & fellowship I need to effectively lead and grow my team, as well as my career.
ODDS offers leaders in Data Science a community to network, learn, and grow within the industry. Having a group of like-minded and similarly skilled leaders in one room opens up opportunities and doors that were previously hard to get to.

FAQ
To be a good fit for ODDS, you are probably:
- Either an experienced Data Science (or similar title¹) leader looking to lead a world class team or an experienced Data Science builder looking to improve your ability to deliver world class value.
- Open to seeking the support, coaching, and mentorship required to scale yourself and your company.
- Willing to share your experiences, challenge assumptions, expand your perspectives, and raise the bar for yourself and others. You’re committed to lifelong learning and a spirit of service to others.
¹ Data Science titling can be notoriously inconsistent, but we look for relevant experience with advanced methods in mathematics, statistics, and machine learning. We calibrate on 7-12 years of experience and titles like 'Head', 'Director', 'Manager', 'Principal', 'Lead', or 'Senior'
Expect 2-3 hours per week of programming for the first 4 weeks (it’s up to you how much you join!), followed by 1-4 hours/month for the remainder of the year. The fellowship is designed for you to opt-in to what suits your goals and time. We recognize that everyone in the community is time-scarce and we aim to deliver as much value as we can while respecting our fellows’ time.
Yes - ODDS will be run entirely remotely. This enables participation from all corners of the world. We've mastered the playbook for building engaging remote communities through multiple On Deck fellowships and will apply the same approach here.
As the year progresses, we’ll be hosting offline events like dinners, small gatherings, and retreats in major cities, but the core Fellowship will remain a remote-first experience.
ODDS is a community unlike any you’ve come across - it connects top-tier data science leaders from all over the world who are delivering business impact and building world class teams for which playbooks don’t exist, and who would benefit most from learning and growing together.
We curate all programming and connections to maximize your value and time spent during the fellowship. You can dive into everything the fellowship has to offer, or opt in only to what best suits your goals and time.
Whether you are a Senior/Principal Data Scientist at a large company, or a Director of Data Science at a start-up, ODDS will provide you with the opportunity to exchange practical frameworks and build deep connections with a highly-curated group of peers.
Our goal is to make the Fellowship accessible to the absolute best talent, no matter their financial situation. Please reach out to us at odds@beondeck.com to discuss your personal situation.
All Fellows have the option to pay in four monthly installments (with no interest or additional charges). We also have a limited number of scholarships available thanks to our Access Initiative. Information about scholarship applications will be provided to accepted Fellows closer to the kickoff date.
